What are some common restaurant injuries?

Regardless of what industry you work in, there are likely to be common injuries that happen all the time. If you work in the restaurant industry in Georgia, knowing what those common injuries are could help you to be more alert and aware, so you can avoid them.

According to QSR, the inexperienced nature of the restaurant industry’s staff often leads to workplace injuries, but there are a few that seem to happen way more often than others. It is not likely to surprise you that burns are a top injury. Burns happen because you are working with hot stovetops, ovens, pans, utensils, pots and other extremely hot items. In addition, you have boiling water and scalding steam that also pose a risk.

Another common injury is cuts. This, again, should not surprise you. A large amount of cooking involves working with sharp objects. Sprains and strains are another issue. These occur from lifting or moving wrong. They can also happen due to falls.

Finally, eye injuries are up there on the list. You are at risk for such injuries because of splattering food, grease, water or cleaning solutions. All it takes is dropping something in a boiling vat of grease to have it splash and cause a serious eye injury.

Any injury that happens is serious because injuries should not happen in the workplace. It is up to you to be aware and to watch out for hazards. You should always follow protocols and adhere to safety requirements. This information is intended for informational purposes only and not meant as legal advice.
