Biography
Doug Cox is a seasoned attorney with over three decades of legal experience, known for his dedication to serving clients across Tennessee and Georgia. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Doug moved to Knoxville, Tennessee, where he attended high school. He earned his undergraduate degree from East Tennessee State University and went on to graduate from the Tennessee School of Law in 1987.
Doug began his legal career at Weill and Weill, a distinguished firm in Chattanooga, Tennessee, focusing on personal injury cases. From 1990 to 2002, he practiced with Nelson, McMahan, Parker, and Noblett, where he represented the City of Chattanooga as an associate to the city attorney, Randall Nelson. During this time, Doug worked closely with city officials and departments, drafting contracts, defending injury and contract claims in state and federal courts, prosecuting eminent domain cases, and providing legal counsel to the Beer Board, Board of Zoning Appeals, Sign Board, and Historic Zoning Board.
In 2002, Doug co-founded Dreaden and Cox, a general practice firm specializing in personal injury, social security disability, workers’ compensation, and criminal law. He led the firm with a steadfast commitment to client advocacy until its closure in 2025, following his partner’s retirement. That same year, Doug joined Harriss and Hartman, where he continues to provide exceptional legal representation to his clients.
Admitted to practice in all Tennessee and Georgia state courts, Doug is also licensed to appear before the United States Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee, and the Middle District of Georgia. His extensive courtroom experience and strategic legal insight have earned him a reputation as a trusted advocate.
Doug is married to Kim Blalock Moore, and together they share a vibrant blended family of five children. Outside the courtroom, he enjoys attending music events and cheering at football, baseball, and basketball games, reflecting his deep connection to his community and its culture.
