Strong Legal Help From Attorneys Who Care

Why are SSDI hearing wait times so long?

If you have applied for Social Security disability benefits in Georgia, then you may understand how complex and time consuming the process can be. When you apply, your case may not be approved, so it will go to a hearing where you get a final ruling on whether you get benefits or not. The problem with this, according to Marketplace, is the wait times on SSDI hearings are astronomical.

With an average wait time being almost two years, this is a huge problem. If you are like most people, you need these benefits to afford the costs of daily life. Waiting years for a ruling can leave you ina serious financial situation. Why does it take so long?

Part of the problem is more people are applying for benefits, which means more denials are occurring. The system is not really set up to handle the large numbers it is seeing. Unfortunately, not much is being done to help fix the situation. There has not been much attention to fixing the appeals process because more focus has been put on trying to keep enough money in the system to pay those who are already receiving benefits.

Will the system be fixed? That is a million dollar question. It requires a lot of work from the government, which is notorious for moving slowly. It is not likely to be fixed anytime soon. The best thing you can do is ensure your application is complete and you include everything you have been asked for to avoid having to go to a hearing at all.
